Coronavirus (COVID-19)

If you are planning on travelling distance to attractions, we would recommend that you contact the venues directly in advance to avoid disappointment.

If you, or any of your party have a new persistant cough, or develop a fever of 38C, we would instead advise you to use the NHS's dedicated website for professional advice.

Humber Keel & Sloop Preservation Society

The HKSPS own 'Amy Howson' a Humber Sloop which is a gaff rigged Sailing Barge, and Comrade a Humber Keel which is a squared rigged Sailing Barge, which they maintain as close to there original conditions as possible.  The Society is run by volunteers, who attempt to keep History alive and afloat, by Sailing these two lovely old Ships in their original trading area and waters.  The Society takes upto 12 passengers at a time out onto the River Humber, for either Day or Evening Sails, details are available on our website: www.keelsandsloops.org.uk
Both ships are 61 foot 6 inches long, and 15 foot 6 inches wide, known as Sheffield size, which meant they fit with just an inch or two to spare in all the locks along the inland navigation as far as Sheffield, Leeds and Wakefield.  There main role was as cargo vessels, shipping all types of cargo from Hull and Grimsby inland, and back again.  Both ships still have their cargo holds, removable wooden loading hatches, and Captains and mates plush cabins, the vessels have engines, but the Society prefers to sail them as much as possible. Come and see for yourself, you too might get the Sailing bug!!
